12 Points Considered, Rank Math SEO vs Yoast SEO Plugin Which is Better?

November 24, 2020

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast SEO Plugin?  Which is better?  In this post, we’re going to look at the advantages of each and compare features to see which is best!

At first glance, you might not think much about this comparison.  Does Rank Math even come close to stacking up with the powerful, popular Yoast SEO plugin?  After all, Yoast is wildly popular and everybody’s heard of it, even if they might not use the plugin themselves.  Yoast has over 5 million installs out there and the number keeps rising every day.

Then again, there’s Rank Math.  A relative newcomer to the WordPress SEO world.  It’s by a theme developer called MyThemeShop and it’s recently come to my attention just how strong an option this plugin is.  So far, it’s only been downloaded about 100,000 times.  But that number is rising quickly.  With the massive amount of features and the swath of positive reviews, it’s easy to see why this one is a fast rising option.

So, which of these two plugins should you choose? Should you go with you popular Yoast plugin or give a shot to the newcomer? This is a complex question and that is exactly what you’re going to tackle in this article. There’s a lot to be said for either of them and each offers something just a little bit different than the other.

Every website needs an SEO plugin, it can really help you to ensure that your content gets the attention that it deserves and to make sure you don’t miss out on any traffic on necessarily. WordPress is a very powerful content management system but making the most of it does require a few little tweaks. In this review, we’ll go over a lot of the different features that each of these plugins offers and I’ll let you decide at the end which one ends up working out best for you.

Why Should I Care About an SEO Plugin?

The search engines, that’s what drives the vast majority of traffic to most websites, they use algorithms to track down the absolute best results for any given search. Google for example, will crawl your website, read your text and decide what it is all about. Sometimes, these spiders aren’t particularly bright. They may lack information about the context of what your post is all about. If you want to rank as high as possible on the search engines, properly optimizing your content is critical.

About three-quarters of all web traffic comes from search engines. On Templified, it’s even higher.  Of course, if you have the type of website that doesn’t rely on organic searches, you might not need an SEO plugin at all. If that’s the case, congratulations and good luck. But for most of us, and SEO plugin is absolutely critical.

So, your site needs to be optimized for both humans and for the Google spiders.  Fortunately, that’s what SEO plugins bring to the table. They will offer simple, fast and user-friendly ways to ensure that the spiders can find out what your site it’s all about and what it has to offer. This way, you can spend more time creating new content and less time fiddling with your SEO. Having an SEO plugin that handles a lot of this heavy lifting is very important.

But Which SEO Plugin is the Absolute Best?

All right, let’s get right down to it. That’s what this post is all about, deciding whether or not used actually is better than rank math for SEO. Let’s dive into the comparison.

I have personally used both of these plug-ins. Full disclosure, I currently use Rank Math. Hopefully that’s not a spoiler. Honestly, there have been sites that I have run in the past where a SEO was better handled by a Yoast. I’ve even used another one call Ultimate SEO. But, let’s not get sidetracked. This is about comparing Math Rank to Yoast.

Rank Math vs Yoast – Installation Process Compared

Let’s start with Math Rank. The installation process goes quickly, download the plug-in from the WordPress repository within about two minutes you should be ready to go. Yoast, it’s pretty much the same. Installation is one aspect where these two plug-ins don’t differ by much, if any.

With Rank Math, you’ll have to sign up for an account.  It doesn’t take too long and there are options for signing up with Google or Facebook accounts, so it goes pretty quick.  You know the drill by now.  The installation wizard does a good job of guiding you installation process, so it goes fast.  Once activated, Rank Math will walk you through the process of setting up some of the features.

Rank Math Installation Wizard Lets Get Started

If you previously had All in One SEO or Yoast SEO installed, you’ll be able to import any settings from those plugins during the second step.  That’s a new feature, I believe.  It takes a few minutes, depending on how many posts you have, so be prepared for that.

Honestly, I feel like Rank Math is a little more user friendly during the installation process.  If you’re a beginner, and we all were at one point, the simpler installation process for Rank Math gives it the edge.

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast SEO – User Interface Compared

So, let’s take a look at the user interface.  It’s not the most critical component of an SEO plugin, but better is better, right?  Here’s Yoast.

Yoast SEO User Interface

Yoast SEO User Interface – Utilitarian and Workmanlike.  Not especially attractive, but that’s okay.

Yoast has a user interface that looks a bit, well, dated.  It’s not particularly inspiring or modern, but it gets the job done.  Let’s compare that to Rank Math.

Rank Math User Interface 1

Rank Math User Interface – Significantly clearer and more modern.

Rank Math just looks better.  But, looks aren’t everything.  I like the easy switches for adding or removing functions and there’s  a little blurb with each one, so you know what you’re getting into.  Most of them are pretty self explanatory.

Are you using BuddyPress? Well, enable it. Same goes for bbPress. You can activate or deactivate the internal link counter, manage redirections, handle rich snippets and, of course, take care of the all-important sitemap functionality. There’s even a switch if you happen to sell products using WooCommerce. These user-friendly and clear options do a much better job overall than Yoast, in my opinion at least.

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast – Keyword Optimization Options

This is where things get more important.

Honestly, the installation process is basically the same and whether or not you prefer a more modern user interface, it doesn’t exactly affect the functionality of the search engine optimization plugin. Those are bells and whistles. The icing on the cake, if you will.  The meat and potatoes of any SEO plugin is the SEO optimization functionality. We’ll dive into that a lot deeper in this section.

Here’s the Yoast keyword integration setup.

Yoast SEO Keyword Optimization Options 1

Yoast SEO Keyword Optimization Options

Using the Yoast SEO free plug-in, you’ll get the ability to optimize any post for a single keyword. If you need to have more keyword optimization, you’ll require the premium version. It allows you to use multiple keywords and keyword variations.  of Rank Math.

But, if we’re just comparing apples to apples, let’s take a look at the free version of rank math. Rank math allows you to optimize up to five different keywords for absolutely nothing. Obviously, five is better than one. personally, I think the optimizing for more than a handful of keywords is overkill. If you optimize for five different keywords, you should be able to plank any piece of content for quite a few more keyboard variations.

It’s like in this article you are currently reading. My main key word of focus is ‘Rank Math vs Yoast’. That’s it. But, it seems likely that I should end up ranking for keywords like ‘Yoast vs. Rank Math SEO’. ‘Yoast and Rank Math compared’. ‘Is rank math better than Yoast’ and so on.  You got the idea.

The coolest thing about Rank Math, it actually gives you helpful hints on selecting keywords to optimize for.  Type in a couple words and it gives you some suggestions.  Pretty slick, in my opinion.

Rank Math Keyword Optimization 1

Rank Math Keyword Optimization – Nice Interface and More Keywords

All of that’s all based on the Google keyword suggestions tool and that’s one of those little tricks that helps a lot of people rank for multiple keywords in any given piece of content. So, the fact that it does the work for you, that’s a pretty handy feature.

Of course, you’ll have no idea what the search volume is or how difficult it’s going to be to rank for the keyword that you choose, but it is a little bit of information that can be helpful.

So, on to another key component of SEO, Schema.org Integration

Rank Math vs Yoast SEO, Rich Snippets/Schema.org Integration

Schema.org is really awesome. What it does, it allows you to enable star ratings, rich snippets and other cool little features that can help your SEO. These show up directly in the search engines, helping your content to stand out and that can really drive up your click-through rate.

Rank Math offers schema support for all content. Yoast does not. If you want to integrate schema.org features on your website, you’ll have to install another outside plug-in to handle that. Considering how important rich snippets are, that’s a functionality that you’re going to want to have. And, there’s always a risk that with any additional plug-in, you can slow your website down that’s certainly not something that you’ll want to do.

A single plug-in that can handle SEO and schema requirements is way better. So, score another one for Rank Math.

Rank Math vs Yoast – 301 Redirects Manager

It can be practically impossible to avoid 404 errors. every site has internal links, it’s a very important part of search engine optimization, allowing the search engines to know what content you value more than others. The amount of internal links might not help you rank any better overall, but it does give Google a good idea of which posts and pages you find to be the most important on your site. And if you’re building internal links, you’re probably going to end up with some that end up broken.

Broken links can really hurt user experience. It can increase your bounce rate and that’s not a good thing. Fortunately, Rank Math includes 404 monitor and you can quickly and easily redirect missing pages to other content. Perhaps you just renamed a page and an internal link is broken, it’s very simple to change where that page redirects. Or, redirect a deleted page to solar content. This is great for when you combine multiple posts into one longer post. This can be a huge benefit for SEO.

Both Rank Math and Yoast plugins offer this functionality, but Rank Math is the only one that offers it for free. Yoast requires a premium upgrade to a handle 301 redirect and to monitor 404 errors.

Rank Math vs Yoast – Content Analysis

Both of these SEO plugins do a good job of handling keyword analysis directly in your WordPress and then panel. they take a look at the words on the page and recommend various changes that can help to influence your SEO score.

One small drawback, Yoast only refers to your content as being good or bad. Unfortunately, the world is not a su binary. How good is good and how bad is bad? well, Rank Math answers the question. Is scores your content on a scale from 1 to 100. That gives you a much better concept of how close you are to having a perfectly optimized posts and pages. It’s also got much more detail and terms of what changes need to be made to get your SEO up to 100%.

Rank Math vs Yoast – Integration for Google Search Console

Formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools, Google Search Console is away for webmasters to keep track of a lot of search data.

When you set up your Rank Math website, just plug in your Gmail account and it will automatically grab the associated search console account from your WordPress dashboard. it’s a very handy tool and it provides quite a bit of data without having to switch back and forth between your WordPress site and your Google search console account.

Yoast has a similar feature, but there’s absolutely no way to monitor the information from your WordPress dashboard. I can be a bit of a drawback and it can slow down your process of perfectly optimizing any given post or page. Personally, I’m all about saving time.

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast SEO – XML Sitemaps

You have two different options when it comes to site map integration. There’s the old school way, using an HTML sitemap. That’s out of date. These days, XML sitemaps or used by search engine bots and spiders, web crawlers and other automated processes, to help find every page on your side and to discover your site’s overall structure. getting all your pages and posts indexed into the search engine database is what these XML sitemap types are all about. If you don’t have one, the crawlers may miss something.

You definitely don’t want that.

Both Rank Math and Yoast SEO let you create powerful XML sitemaps with just a couple of clicks. Either one or perfectly acceptable and both work roughly the same. The great thing about these tools being integrated, you won’t have to use an aftermarket plug-in to handle XML sitemap generation.

So, neither plug-in gets the advantage here.

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast – Search Engine Optimization Auditing

What’s an SEO auditing tool? Well, it can give you in-depth insight into the SEO score of your overall website. This can let you quickly find trouble spots and see what you need to improve. Rank Math has an SEO audit tool that is integrated right there in your WordPress dashboard.

Sure, it’s not as powerful as what you would get with costly, premium third-party auditing tool. SEMRush or Ahrefs come to mind. But, with the Rank Math auditing tool, you get a lot of data that can be incredibly helpful to help build up your SEO. For free no less!  Considering the fact that SEMRush costs about $100 a month, that’s a pretty sizable savings for you.

Yoast SEO has absolutely nothing like it. So, that’s a huge advantage of for Rank Math.

Rank Math vs Yoast – WooCommerce Optimization

if you’re selling products with WordPress, you’re probably going to use WooCommerce. WooCommerce is the most popular e-commerce plugin for WordPress and it’s got tons of features that can help you sell any type of products. With WooCommerce, you’ll be able to create products, create specialized shop listings, accept payments through a variety of gateways, manage shipments and plenty more.

wake me up and Yoast both offer WooCommerce optimization functions. These can help you by providing metadata about all of your products. This could show up directly in the search engine feed when customers go searching for something.

Unfortunately, Yoast locks WooCommerce SEO support behind a paywall. With rank meth, you get that functionality for free. Again, if you’re looking to set up eCommerce SEO on a budget, rank math is certainly the better option.

Rank Math vs Yoast SEO – Role Management

Role management is a pretty interesting feature, it allows you to give different authors different permission levels. This is really helpful for multi-author websites. no matter how many different writers you have on your website, they can all collaborate together to create amazing content that people enjoy. Rank Math is the only one of these plug-ins to offer a role manager function. now, this might not be important for everyone, but it is something to keep in mind if you run a multi-author blog.

Rank Math SEO vs Yoast – Support and Documentation

The Yoast SEO plugin certainly offers a high level of support. However, you’re going to have to pay for the premium plan to get it. If you’re using the free version, you better know all about how to resolve your own issues, because there is no support available. For premium users, Yoast does offer excellent support. for certain projects in the past, I have used Yoast premium and found it to be quite reliable and found the support to be excellent. But, that great support comes at a relatively high cost.

Rank math is a little different. there are a few little bugs in there but overall the code is pretty clean and seems to work properly. At least I haven’t run into any issues with it. The folks at my theme shop, the developer of the Rank Math plug-in, has been incredibly helpful and super active. They seem to be available around the clock to ensure that you have no problems using their plug-in.

I guess that’s the benefit of being the new guy trying to take down the reigning champion.

Rank Math vs Yoast – Which is Better for Search Engine Optimization?

So, which plug-in is better? Is it Rank Math? Is it Yoast? In my opinion, Rank Math is clearly a better choice. Now, I understand that Yoast is much more popular and some people may want to use it because there is a very large user base out there. But, getting in on the ground floor with Rank Math could be a great idea.

If you’ve already purchased a premium copy of Yoast, there’s really no point in switching back to Rank Math. However, if you were just getting started, or setting up a new website, I personally think that Rank Math is better. From the intuitive user interface and the setup wizard that walks you through getting started, to the high performance optimization choices, Rank Math is far more user-friendly and, at least for the free version, quite a bit more powerful.

I’ve also noticed that with longer posts, Yoast has a tendency to get bogged down. I think the code itself is a bit bloated.  I’ve read about this from quite a number of webmasters, but I have not done a ton of research about it myself. This is probably something that I will get into a little bit more in-depth in the future, but for now, anecdotally, Rank Math seems to perform better since I have installed it.

So, that’s it for today, hopefully you have learned quite a bit about rank math and Yoast and now you know which one I prefer.
